Don't Get Caught in a Spoofing Scam

Scammers are known to make calls that appear to come from legitimate businesses! Even a MECU phone number might show up on your caller ID but the person on the other end of the line is not a MECU employee. This tactic is called spoofing.

A scammer uses this technique so that when he calls, the number he’s calling from appears to be from a source you know and trust. That’s right, your financial institution! The caller then tries to convince you to give out your personal information, account number, username, password, or other information so that he can take over your account. If this happens to you, do not provide any information. Hang up immediately and contact the credit union directly at 405-813-5500.
